Assist Text to 9-1-1 Translation – new feature for VESTA 9-1-1 (R8.5)
Communicating clearly during an emergency can be challenging— especially when a caller speaks another language. As Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) experience increased use of Text to 9-1-1 by residents and visitors who do not speak English, especially during large-scale events and emergencies, translation support is a top priority. Your PSAP needs tools that remove language barriers without slowing response times.
This is why Motorola Solutions is introducing Assist Text to 9-1-1 Translation with VESTA 9-1-1 R8.5 — a powerful new capability that automatically detects and translates non-English text messages directly within VESTA 9-1-1.
Seamless two-way translation
Assist Text to 9-1-1 Translation enables seamless, two-way translation during Text to 9-1-1 conversations. When a non-English text message is received, the VESTA system can automatically detect the language and display both the original message and its English translation on VESTA 9-1-1.
Your telecommunicators can respond in English and the system translates the response back into the caller’s original language before it is sent. This enables your team to see both the original message and the English translation directly on the VESTA 9-1-1 console, so they can understand the situation right away.
All translated exchanges are captured in VESTA Analytics and i3 logs, providing full visibility for review and reporting. The system supports more than 56 languages, with additional languages continuing to be added over time. All translations happen within the existing VESTA 9-1-1 user interface, which means no additional external applications or workflow changes required.
Key benefits
- Removes language barriers instantly. Non-English text messages are automatically detected and translated, allowing your team to understand the situation immediately.
- Offers two-way communication without interruption. Responses typed in English are translated back into the caller’s language automatically, creating a natural, real-time conversation.
- Requires no additional training. Because the experience uses the VESTA Text to 9-1-1 interface, you do not need to identify languages or manually initiate translation. The system handles it automatically. Unlike standalone translation services, Assist Text to 9-1-1 Translation is fully integrated into VESTA call handling – providing a unified, purpose-built solution.
What’s needed to enable Assist Text to 9-1-1 Translation?
To take advantage of this feature, your PSAP must:
- Be enabled for Text to 9-1-1
- Have appropriate firewall permissions
- Configure VESTA 9-1-1 to connect to cloud services
Configuration is easily completed through a new tab in ‘Agency Details’, following the same process used for other Motorola Solutions cloud-connected capabilities.
Designed for today – and what’s to come
Assist Text to 9-1-1 Translation shows Motorola Solutions’ ongoing commitment to smarter, more integrated tools for telecommunicators. By breaking down language barriers without adding complexity, your agency can help more people — faster — when it matters most.

Single Sign On (SSO) for VESTA 9-1-1

SSO allows VESTA 9-1-1 users to employ their Motorola Solutions CommandCentral cloud login ID and password to access both the VESTA 9-1-1 console and cloud applications. This simplifies the management of 9-1-1 operations by offering easy access to VESTA 9-1-1 and its AI capabilities, as well as the VESTA NXT emergency backup system, all while utilizing the same credentials. Furthermore, SSO increases security by allowing for the application of Multifactor Authentication (MFA), which requires multiple verification factors for account access to protect against unauthorized access.
The following items are required to enable SSO:
- Firewall permissions
- PSAP must be registered with Motorola Solutions CommandCentral cloud
- VESTA 9-1-1 must be configured to connect to CommandCentral cloud
- User’s email address must be configured in VESTA 9-1-1
- SSO must be enabled for the PSAP
- Google Chrome must be installed on the VESTA consoles
Once enabled, the VESTA 9-1-1 user can continue to use their existing VESTA 9-1-1 agent login or use their full email address that is registered with CommandCentral cloud services. The VESTA 9-1-1 console login workflow will then direct the user to the appropriate authentication method based on their SSO registration status and availability of cloud service.
Please note that in case of a cloud or CPE outage, the login reverts back to the legacy VESTA 9-1-1 login, so you can always handle emergency calls.
