According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), heart disease is the leading cause of death for men, women and people of most racial and ethnic groups in the United States. February is American Heart Month – a time to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease. The month focuses on educating the public about prevention, detection, and treatment of heart disease and stroke, encouraging people to adopt heart-healthy lifestyles, and promoting early detection and management of risk factors. Ultimately, the goal is to reduce the burden of heart disease and improve heart health outcomes for all Americans.
This is a great time to not only educate your community about heart disease, but also encourage them to create a Smart911 profile. Smart911 is a free service that allows your community members to create a Safety Profile containing information they want first responders to know in an emergency. This profile can include details like medical conditions, medications, allergies, emergency contacts, photos of family members, and even the location of a pet. This supplemental information can be crucial in saving time and potentially lives during an emergency response.
To support your community outreach around American Heart Month, Motorola Solutions has created a comprehensive outreach kit that includes:
- Resources for Cardiovascular Health, courtesy of the CDC
- A social media graphic and social media toolkit to help engage your community
- A Smart911 flyer that can be distributed at local community and wellness centers
