Summit 2023 Cybersecurity Sessions Overview

Explore the future of cybersecurity for public safety and get tips from our experts at the following sessions:

  • Intro to PSAP Cyber Threat Detection & Response
  • Anatomy of a Public Safety Ransomware Attack
  • What to Expect During Cyber Incident Response
  • How to Get Your Cybersecurity Program Covered for Free
  • Cyber Threats: A Public Safety Agency Perspective
  • Intro to VESTA 9-1-1 Cyber Threat Detection & Response
  • Cybersecurity 101: Why Should Public Safety Care?

Here’s a brief overview of each presentation.

Anatomy of a Public Safety Ransomware Attack — Get a detailed look into what actually happens before, during and after a ransomware attack. Learn about common attack vectors used by cyber criminals and other threat actors, and best practices for preventing future attacks.

What To Expect During Cyber Incident Response — Find out what to expect during an incident response engagement. We’ll discuss proactive steps that can be taken prior to an incident occurring, how to coordinate with stakeholders and law enforcement in order to get ahead of any potential cyber threats, and how best to mitigate damage should an incident occur.

Cybersecurity 101: Why Should Public Safety Care? — In this course, we’ll provide an introduction to essential cybersecurity basics, including a topical discussion of cyber threats and the fundamentals of risk management from a public safety perspective. We’ll also discuss what steps you can take to create and nurture a cybersecurity mindset within your agency.

How to Get Your Cybersecurity Program Covered for Free — Congress established the nearly $1 billion State and Local Cybersecurity Grant Program (SLCGP) in 2021 to help states, local governments, rural areas and territories address cybersecurity risks and cybersecurity threats to information systems. Learn how your agency can tap into these grants to fund your cybersecurity initiatives in 2023.

Ransomware: A Survival Guide for Public Safety — In this session, we’ll demonstrate how attackers enter and move within a public safety network, and share practical steps you can take to protect your most valuable information. Learn about the motives and methods of ransomware developers versus operators, the rise of ransomware-as-a-service, and the modus operandi of underground cybercrime markets.

Cyber Threats Panel: A Public Safety Perspective — Hear from a panel of public safety agency leaders on how they are leveraging membership in the Public Safety Threat Alliance (PSTA), an information sharing and analysis organization (ISAO) established by Motorola Solutions to combat increasingly complex and disruptive cyber threats to their agencies and the constituents they serve.

Introduction to VESTA 9-1-1 Cyber Threat Detection & Response — Protecting Emergency Call Handling (ECH) systems from cyber threats is more critical than ever. As attacks against 9-1-1 and adjacent systems grow, agencies face a variety of operational challenges and potential impacts. In this presentation, we’ll share insights into the top cyber threats impacting ECH and what you can do to prevent and respond to them.

Introduction to PSAP Cyber Threat Detection and Response — This session will cover the importance of having an effective cyber threat detection system in place to detect malicious attacks on public safety answering point (PSAP) networks as quickly as possible. Additionally, we’ll share insights into the top cyber threats impacting PremierOne and Flex CAD and how agencies can protect and defend against them.

Meet the Public Safety Threat Alliance (PSTA) Team

Recognized by the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), Motorola Solutions has established the PSTA as a cyber threat ISAO to provide public safety agencies the capabilities they need to defend against attacks. Be sure to stop by the PSTA booth in the Forum to meet our team and find out more about this exciting new initiative, along with our no-cost membership options for public safety entities. Charter agencies are also invited to attend our first annual member meeting.

Summary

You’ll also find a wide range of sessions on plenty of other topics, including getting the most out of your PremierOne and Flex systems, important updates to the CJIS Security Policy, sessions for Emergency Call Handling (ECH) professionals and more, including our popular Forum in which you can see demos of our public safety hardware and software solutions.
