As we close out 2019, Motorola Solutions looks back at a historic and memorable year of serving our public safety teams and providing the best mission-critical technology for our customers. We continue to expand on our ecosystem of communications, software, video and analytics, and services by setting the pace in the market.
Motorola Solutions provides the first and only public safety ecosystem, which expanded in 2019 with our acquisitions of VaaS International (Vigilant Solutions), Avtec, and WatchGuard. Additionally, we enhanced our software solutions by transitioning our key offerings to the cloud, ensuring our solutions are evolving with the needs of public safety. To note our biggest launch in over a decade, APX NEXT™ & ViQi Virtual Partner were introduced at IACP 2019 in Chicago, IL.

January 7, 2019 – Acquisition of VaaS International (Vigilant Solutions)
VaaS, a “video analysis as a service” company, is a leading global provider of data and image analytics for vehicle location. The company’s image capture and analysis platform, which includes fixed and mobile license plate reader cameras driven by machine learning and artificial intelligence, expands our public safety ecosystem by enabling customers with more information at the right time.
March 11, 2019 – Acquisition of Avtec
Avtec’s industry-leading solutions enable business-critical communications across diverse industries, expanding our public safety and commercial portfolios. Avtec provides voice over internet protocol (VoIP) dispatch services over land mobile radio (LMR) and broadband networks. Its services enable customers to connect operations center personnel using Avtec dispatch solutions with workers in the field using two-way radios.
July 11, 2019 – Acquisition of WatchGuard Video
WatchGuard designs and manufactures in-car video systems, body-worn cameras, evidence management systems and software. Its solutions enable law enforcement users to capture, manage, store and share high-quality video evidence. This integrated, secure mobile video solution can enhance safety and efficiency for public safety users capturing multiple vantage points for our customers in the most critical moments of operations.
July 20, 2019 – 50th Anniversary of the Moon Landing
On July 20th, we celebrated Motorola’s key involvement with communication devices in the Apollo 11 mission. One of Motorola’s most notable contributions to the Apollo 11 mission was the unified S-Band transponder that carried the first words from the moon to Earth. Our solutions were the vital communications link between Earth and the Apollo space capsule.
September 26, 2019 – Motorola Solutions is 91 in ’19
Motorola Solutions celebrated 91 years in 2019 as a leading technology provider. In recognition of this milestone, the company’s charitable giving arm, the Motorola Solutions Foundation, announced a $91,000 (USD) grant to benefit the Society of Women Engineers, the world’s largest advocate and catalyst for change for women in engineering and technology.
October 1, 2019 – Enhancements to our Software Portfolio
At the Motorola Solutions Software Summit in Salt Lake City, UT we shared significant product enhancements to our Command Center Software Suite. Bringing an evolution to the public safety cloud and how it now enables faster, more secure technology for customers. Ultimately, we are focusing on enabling our customers to get more out of what they are already using while also simplifying and modernizing where necessary.
October 25, 2019 – Launch of APX NEXT & ViQi 
At IACP 2019 in Chicago IL, we announced the launch of APX NEXT, a next-generation mission-critical Project 25 (P25) public safety radio with LTE for enhanced communications and data-centric application services. Additionally, we announced ViQi, a public safety virtual assistant that provides vital information to first responders in the field and allows users to operate APX NEXT via voice control. This groundbreaking solution will be the NEXT generation of public safety solutions.
October 26-29, 2019 – IACP 2019, Chicago IL
This year IACP 2019 was hosted in our hometown of Chicago. With the conference located in our backyard, we set the tone by announcing several innovative solutions to our public safety portfolio, including: APX NEXT, ViQi, WatchGuard V300 Body Camera, Vigilant Solutions BallisticSearch and CrimeSearch, and WAVE Video Streaming. Additionally, we hosted 3 community service projects in partnership with Chicago Police Department and participated in 3 speaking engagements with our public safety partners.
Our mission day-in and day-out is to drive innovation and keep our customers as the #1 priority, this has always been our venture and will continue to be into 2020. We look into the new year refreshed and excited to continue providing the best technology and services for the customers we support. 2019 was an exceptional year and in 2020 we will continue the momentum.
